No Ordinary Evening
How do I begin. Uh. It was an almost perfect night that commenced with an almost tragic afternoon. Will that do?
So yeah. I went to Regent wearing the same crimson button down blouse I wore last year for my pre-prom rituals. Zelita told me the make up person would arrive at 3:30, so got there at 3:45. How totally ME. I kind of got lost finding Room 324 [the front desk girl didn't tell me it was in the Region II of the hotel, or maybe I didn't hear her] and had to ask some staff/crew people. The, uh, boss-like lady said she'd make pagalit the front desk girl. Oops.
So I arrived there. Still no make up people. We had to wait until 4:30. Zelita was hysterical already, screaming her eyebrows out. So while the badings made up Zelita and Trina, my mom made plantsa my hair. I kept on laughing because Zelita and the bading were having an argument about Zelita's withchie-withcie eyebrows. Anyhooo, when it was my turn, I realized that the bading was good but a little violent in applying eye make up. I think s/he tore my contacts, contaminated it with make up and got some hairspray on it. That's why I can't fooking wear it now because it burns like a fiery demon. Anyway, I didn't feel that bad right after the make up session. So yeah, I dressed up and put on my heels. It felt nice being tall. Trying to look comfortable and not looking like I was balancing on stilts was another matter. Fooking stairs.
We met with our friends on the 3rd floor lounge. Abee was indescribable. Beautiful would be an understatement. Alfred was complaining about his too long coat. Angela, as usual, was as eccentric and glamorous as ever. I saw Russel, my assigned partner, and I immediately fell in love with his Penshoppe tie. Cocoy too, was wearing yet another unique ensemble, and was as fashionable, if not more, as he was at last year's prom. So there, I managed to not crawl my way upstairs, not step on my dress while walking, not trip on the stairs to the stage, and most importantly not trip, slide, rip my dress, break my heels or fall off the stage while the procession was going on.
Gotta eat.
Done.
So I was finally able to be with my friends from the Table 8. We took pictures, chatted, stuff. We compared masks and found Darlene's to be the most useful. It doubles as a feather duster. And hides a face in case of emergencies (read: horrible jokes and glaring teachers). We had a very long program (thanks to the entrance and candle lighting). The Zephyrus also had a really fun prophecy. Russ sang in front of all the people. Can you believe it. Some Zephys were teary eyed while he sang. Awww. Pffft.
A Nephy pair danced the waltz. It was wonderful. They won the Dance Sport last Intrams. After the Cotillion dance, our favorite part (next to the ball, of course): dinner. It was better than last year. Though I wasn't able to finish it. I was afraid the food wouldn't fit in my stomach anymore and would have to find a way out.
Oops. Too much information.
The ball came. I pretty much sat out the first two love songs. But danced like there was no tomorrow during the lively songs. I was planning to remove the fooking heels so that I could do my thang. But I was enjoying being tall. Tee-hee. My first dance was unexpected, the invitation from someone I know only as a schoolmate. I t was fun though, and sweet too. He was friendly enough to approach us when I starting to feel like a wallflower. After that though, I danced non-stop. Lucky me. I made it a point to dance with only one person for the whole song so as nopt to make it bitin. I also made it a point to make each dance memorable and unique. There were three that topped my list:
Bongga ang kiray mo, taray.
- Christian
Sorry. (That was the only conversation we had. But it made me feel like I was dancing with my old friend again.)
- Someone
Mayo na kitang ibang steps? Dai ako tatao. (I almost snorted here.)
- Jomari
During lively songs, my friends would form a circle and just dance like crazy. Let it all out baby. Our student teacher even removed her heels to dance in the middle of our circle. News have reached me that many others did the same. Hilarious, imagining them like that. When I heard Sir Raphie announce that we were down to our last two love songs, I started to panic. I haven't danced with the two remaining most important guys in my high school life: Russ and German. Maaan. I have to find them, and Kwenj too! I finally found Russ and Kwenj, and got to dance with them. Our dances didn't last as long as I would have wanted, only a third of the song I think. Tss. It was so bitin. If only I got to dance with German AND didn't get ube flavored ice cream, my prom would have been dreamlike, perfect even.Labels: english, everyday, prom, school, zephyrus
